Warner Media Case Study

Zonegen Case Studies

WarnerMedia (Turner Broadcasting)

Background

Warner Media’s brands are world leaders in creating premium content. They operate one of the world’s largest TV and film studios and own a deep library of entertainment. They also manage popular digital sites such as Bleacher Report and a growing family of streaming services including HBO, Cartoon Network, CNN, NOW, Boomerang and DC Universe.

When Warner Media (WM) decided to relocate their EMEA HQ from 16 Great Marlborough Street, they knew that moving the infrastructure to the 5 floors at 160 Old Street would prove challenging for both the Network Infrastructure Team and Mobile Telephony teams. Mobile Telephony is a major service in this organisation, with the client having both EE and Vodafone users in different divisions who need to remain in constant communication.

The high quality state of the art building refurbishment at 160 Old street utilised modern building materials and cladding / insulation that essentially resulted in a significant loss of mobile signal strength and quality across all floors.

Solution

Zonegen were selected against other vendors to survey, report and quote for the provision of installing a Mobile Telephony Solution to the lower 3 of the 5 occupied floors of the WM space at 160 Old Street.

We conducted several site surveys and design meetings in conjunction with the technical teams, as well as an extensive review of their cabling infrastructure and multiple TR’s. Our proposal was a complex installation of a Cel-Fi Quatra solution consisting of 2 2x2 MIMO External Antennas, 6 Network Units(NU), 22 Coverage Units(CU) and 18 POE Extenders. WM approved the design and proposals, allowing Zonegen to implement to the agreed design and timescales.

Challenges

Such a complex consortium of companies and infrastructures presented its own challenges in relation to Project Management, not to mention the internal complexities of construction, Film studios, Sound booths, and Auditorium.

The implementation had to meet strict building regulations and tight commercial deadlines, as well as not disrupting the many other contractors who were onsite involved in the fit out.

Result

The solution provided a minimum 30dBm improvement in signal strength, uniformly across all floors. It allowed the 1200+ staff to be truly agile in their work methods, allowing them to move across locations within the occupied space, with the installed coverage network units providing optimal signal strength and quality to their respective carrier.

After the installation was completed, Zonegen attended site and carried out a post install survey and completed a detailed handover providing full documentation to the client.

"Thank you Zonegen team for your hard work and professionalism. Great job and enjoyed working with you all."
